12th April 2004: Lara Creates History; Scores an Unbeaten 400

On this day in 2004, Brian Lara became the first batsman to cross the 400-run mark in international cricket. After 15 years, the record still stands.

As one of the greatest cricketers in the whites, Lara often worked as a crusader in the West Indian batting lineup. Seeing his flamboyant cricket shots such as a cover drive or a leg glance, it was a cure to watch for any cricket lover.

The West Indies were already down three places in the series because Lara came out to bat at No. 3 in the fourth Test in Antigua. However, after which the sensational marathon took place, there was a world of cricket at its feet.

While on the crease in 582 balls, Lara made 43 fours and four sixes. For the first time, he shared a 232-run partnership with Ramnaresh Sarwan (90) for the third wicket, which was declared before the partnership with Riley Jacobs (107 *) and unbeaten 282 runs, to score his score of 751/5 Made to move.

The bat was easy for the hosts, but the audience struggled to find the flow from the bat and remained limited to 285 in its first innings. Forced Michael Vaughan's century to save him from the defeat of the innings.

The match ended in draw but Lara's record-breaking feat is widely recognized.
