If Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid felt the importance of the tournament, would they still be out of the World Twenty20 in 2007? For one, Dravid did not take the format very seriously. In the same country, the Indian captain appointed on the tour of 2006-07, he was out of the only T20 International on tour, so that Virender Sehwag became the first player to lead India in that format.
Did anyone in the global cricket community feel the moment when when Ravi Shastri's voice hit Sreesanth on television sets across India? Nobody can help, but surprisingly in line below eleven years.
But hardly anyone can blame them. The last generation of Indians took their time to warm one-day international cricket. India had hosted only six ODIs till Kapil Dev had organized a Prudential Cup on the Lords Balcony, three of them were against Sri Lanka.
Things changed with that World Cup victory, just like the Indians celebrated and after 34 years Misbah-ul-Haq slipped.
A few months after that moment, there was an unknown tournament with elegance in cricket. However, to be fair, the ICL came first, reflecting the supertiest of Kerry Packer almost three decades ago. He liked almost all the teams of Chris Cairns, Shane Bond, Lance Klusener, Nathan Astle, Jason Gillespie, and Pakistan and Bangladesh.
But they failed to attract high-profile Indian cricketers, which meant that despite its city-based teams, a group of international stars, major stars that are performing on the break, never came to India. Fans wanted to see their own stars
A big setback came when the BCCI announced its league, this time with Indian big guns. Indian or other cricketers can play officially, without fear of being banned by their respective boards.
Of course, the BCCI has denied the IPL's response to the IPL. IPL convenor and BCCI vice president Lalit Modi insisted that the BCCI was working on the concept for "for two years".
And how did all this start with eight teams?
Regardless of the disputes, continuous complaints of pushing the traditional format to the background, the Indian Premier League, its cheerleaders and the "maximum" and strategic timelines and a special window in the ICC FTP have moved from India to South Africa. The Gulf and Back, from DLF to Pepsi to Vivo, and from strength to strength.
introduction
The rules were simple. Eight city-based franchisees, salary cap of $ 5 million - this clearly increased in franchise over time, and up to four foreign players per match per team. Each of the six teams nominated one of their cities as "icon player", cricketers who will earn 15% more than the most expensive acquisition by that franchise: Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Sehwag, Yuvraj, and Laxman. Four of them were not even part of the World T20
Laxman rejected the offer, which allowed Deccan Chargers to save on the budget. Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings took the first two auctions in the auction. Shane Warne and MS Dhoni will lead their side in the final for these men.
India had won the Under-19 World Cup that year, due to which 16 teenagers became part of the draft. Manish Pandey went to Mumbai, Ravindra Jadeja Rajasthan, and more importantly, Virat Kohli Bangalore. Kohli is the only cricketer who has played all eleven-twelve seasons so far for the same franchise.
2008: Icon player, one slap, and two Shane W
Kolkata's Brendon McCullum started the tournament with an innings of 158 runs from 73 balls, then set a record in T20 cricket. A week later he was awarded Orange Cap, an in-tournament award for major run-scorer. Immediately after this, the Purple Cap was announced for the major wicket-taker.The version was part of the controversy. The most notorious of these happened in Mohali, when Harbhajan Singh of Mumbai slapped Sreesanth of Punjab after the match, which later resulted in breaking the television cameras. Harbhajan was banned for the rest of the tournament.
During the auction, Rajasthan's view assured many people that they were the weakest. He did not have a coach (doubled as Warne). Nor did they have high-profile names except Warne, Graeme Smith and Shane Watson.
But he liked one thing better than others: He felt the importance of roles and experts in T20 cricket.
In Yusuf Pathan, he got a loaded sloger who bowled a little bit. Pathan scored 25 sixes in the tournament. He did not get another unexpected pair of hits in Jadeja - who hardly bowled - and Kamran Akmal And Goa opener Swapnil Asnodkar was given a free hand at the top.
In Munaf Patel and Siddharth Trivedi, they get two economical bowlers. And Sohail Tanvir won the purple cap for all the arms and legs in their peculiar action. Then Watson was the man who won the Player of the Tournament with 472 runs (strike rate 152) and 17 wickets (economy 7.07).
But there was a heavy word on everyone, whose adventurous use, strategic skill, composition, and amazing leadership - apart from 19 wickets and important cameo - helped Rajasthan win.
Tanvir hit a winning stroke on Lakshmipathy Balaji's ball on the final ball of the tournament when he was on the edge of the non-striker.
2009: Rainbow Nation and Fake IPL Player
This
is the year of general elections, the Government of India announced that they
will not be able to provide IPL with extra security. This was a matter of
concern, and therefore more because the Sri Lankan team escaped in a terrorist
attack in Lahore in March. The tournament was finally moved to South Africa,
although at 4 pm and 8 pm - remained the same.
There
were some remarkable reshuffles. Bangalore dismissed Dravid as captain in place
of Kevin Pietersen, and later Peterson took a decision with Anil Kumble, who
changed his fate. Similarly, Chargers had a new captain-coach combination in
Gilchrist and Darren Lehmann.
Not
all changes worked Kolkata coach John Buchanan introduced several captain
strategies, replacing Ganguly with McCullum at the beginning of the tournament.
They stayed in the last place.
The
day the tournament began, a blog appeared in the short time after the name of
the pseudonym of the Fake IPL Player Viral. With special tension on the camps
of Kolkata, the blog has been dealt with surprisingly surprising things. A year
later, an Anupam Mukherjee from Bangalore was owned by Blogger.
In
the last match of the league, there was a fight between Deccan Chargers and
Bangalore. Pandey scored 114 runs in 73 balls - the first century by an Indian
in the tournament.
Kumble
himself had figures of 4-0-16-4 in the final, but Herschelle Gibbs batted
through the innings and brought the Chargers to 143/6. At one time, Bangalore
needed 45 in 34 balls with six wickets in hand, but after that they lost the
track.
2010: Modi's Fall, Chennai's Rise
In
2010, the IPL returned to India - and became the first cricket tournament to be
broadcast live on YouTube. Playoffs were telecast live in 3D in more than 120
screens across India. Following the acceptance of Amnesty's proposal by the
BCCI, the ICL players were a part of the auction.
Chennai
won the first of their three titles this year. He found two young spinners - a
local boy named Shadab Jakati and R Ashwin of Goa to support Muttiah
Muralitharan.
Already
as an all-rounder with Albie Morkel, Chennai completed his bowling quintet with
Doug Bollinger, who had reached the replacement of injured Jacob Oram. All five
bowlers took more than 10 wickets; And except for Morkel, everyone went for
more than eight overs. But Morkel made a strike rate of more than 151.
Chasing
169 runs in the final, Mumbai were defeated by the Chennai bowlers by 22 runs.
Tendulkar won the Orange Cap for his 618 runs at a strike rate of 133.
A
day after the final, BCCI suspended Modi for "alleged acts of personal
disobedience". In 2010, charges of rigging in franchisees were different
for charging a facility fee for broadcasting rights for leaking classified BCCI
information for Rajasthan and Punjab franchisees.
Modi
fled to London
2011: Revamp, Warriors, and Tuskers
The
teams were divided into two groups of five; each team was playing teams twice
from its group and the second group was once played. It meant that the number
of matches went up to 74, even for the rest of the couple.
After
less than a week of the World Cup finals, there was some decline in the tournament
after the tournament began. Earlier pages were not eager to share the IPL with
the World Cup.
What
was more, Indian fans took the time to warm up their new teams after the first
significant change in personnel in the tournament. Stars only for the
unfinished cities: Dravid for Rajasthan, Ganguly for Pune (Ashish Nehra after
injury in finger), Laxman for Kochi, Gautam Gambhir for Kolkata, and so on.
Tuskers
and Warriors were ranked eighth and ninth respectively. At the other end of the
spectrum, Bangalore signed a historic acquisition by signing Chris Gayle as the
replacement for Dirk Nannes. To claim the Orange Cap, Gayle scored 608 runs
with a strike rate of 183. Among his colleagues, Kohli remained second with
557. In the bowlers, Srinath Arvind's 21 wickets kept him at number three.
And
yet, there was no silver utensil for Bangalore, for a year when Dhoni could not
do any wrong. After being topped in the league, Bangalore qualifier lost to
both in the qualifiers 1 and the final. Ashwin claimed Gayle twice for 8 and 0
and he was.
Murali
had gone to Kochi, but Chennai had an excellent replacement in Dwayne Bravo,
which will win the Purple Cap in 2013 and 2015 - a feat achieved only by
Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Tuskers
failed to pay the bank guarantee and later expelled from the IPL later that
year. No replacement name was given for the next season.
2012: Gayle, Narine, and spot-fixing
With
virtually unfamiliar for the last decade, Kolkata picked up its first trophy
under Gambhir, his new captain, whose runs were just beside Gayle.
Kolkata
had earlier tried to get Ajantha Mendis out when batsmen from around the world
made it difficult for him to read. This time he chose Sunil Narine apart from
Shakib Al Hasan. In later years, he will acquire Brad Hogg, Kuldeep Yadav and
Piyush Chawla to form a spectacular spin unit.
Naren
(24 wickets at 13.50, economy 5.47) pushed Kolkata to second place in the
table. Then they defeated Delhi and Chennai to win the title. Not even the
owner of Shah Rukh Khan's controversy - he was banned for five years for
entering Wankhede and he was caught smoking on camera and could have his soul
mesmerized.
However,
India Today Sting framed five cricketers for spot-fixing. TP Sudhindra was
banned for five years for life, Shalabh Srivastava and Mohnish Mishra, Amit
Yadav and Abhinav Bali (not part of IPL) for a year. In the next season, things
will be confused.
2013: Sunrise, Gayle more ... and spot-fixing
This
time Gayle missed the Orange Cap by 26 runs, but his unbeaten 175 in 66 balls
against Pune has his highest individual T20 score.
Before
Mumbai became the captain instead of Rohit Sharma, before the introduction of
his elements, Mumbai stopped the start. They improved after the season started,
in which four batsmen 400 and four bowlers took 16 or more wickets.
But
his biggest star was Kieron Pollard, whom he had acquired three seasons
earlier, but he did not use them properly. This time he scored 420 runs from 42
(strike rate 149), picked 10 wickets, caught 12 catches and performed
brilliantly. He also scored an unbeaten 32 off 60 balls in the low-scoring
final.
However,
all this happened when the Delhi Police arrested Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and
Ankeet Chavan of Rajasthan for spot fixing allegations. It has several ebooks
and Chennai team chief Gurunath Meiyappan, chairman of BCCI N. Srinivasan's
son-in-law started a series of incidents.
Royals
co-owner Raj Kundra was stopped - temporarily, for later life - by
participating in "all cricket activities" The Supreme Court of India
asked Srinivasan to resign from the post and submit his resignation in March
next.
Following
the inquiry of the Lodha panel, Chennai and Rajasthan - the finalists of the
first edition - were suspended from the IPL for 2016 and 2017.
And
the fans got another blow when Pune failed to pay full franchisee fee, she had
to get out of the league.
2014: Gulf War and Gendeepeep Singh
Mumbai
had released Glenn Maxwell before the season. Punjab got them in the auction.
He scored 552 runs with a strike rate of 188 and named him the MVP of the
tournament. Glendeep Singh, he used to call him Punjab affectionately.
In
addition, David Miller scored 446 runs in 149 and his six bowlers took more
than 10 wickets. Punjab also provided two incredible innings in the playoffs. Sehwag
played 122 runs in 58 balls in the qualifier 2. Suresh Raina (87 runs from 25
runs) chipped in with a huge 22-run chase. Chennai managed to score 100/2 in 6
overs and finally restricted to 202/7.
Riddhiman
Saha (115 not out in 65 balls) became the first batsman to score a century in
IPL final, but under the leadership of Pandey (94 in 50), Kolkata crushed
Punjab's dreams.
2015: Fan Park, 235/1, and return to Mumbai
Simmons
finished with 540 runs behind David Warner's Tally 562. Lasith Malinga's 24
wickets were only next to Bravo's 26. Both Rohit and Pollard stayed on top of
400 runs, while McLenaghn and Harbhajan took 18 wickets.
He
won 9 of his last 10 appearances (including three victories on table-toppers
Chennai) and got a trophy. And their only defeat was during this streak when
Kohli and AB de Villiers added an unbeaten 215 runs for the second wicket -
then they made a world record for just 101 balls for any wicket.
BCCI
launched the "Fan Park" - Stadiums with a giant screen that broadcast
live matches in fifteen cities to give a sense of "venue" across the
country. By 2018 the count increased to thirty-six.
2016: Drought and Sunrise and Lions and Superjents and Kohli
Unfortunately,
Maharashtra saw one of its worst droughts in the season, which resulted in all
the matches to be taken out of Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur.
Gujarat
has won six of its first seven matches, making a brilliant start. Even after
the recession in the mid-season, he achieved the top spot in the points table,
in which he was to be included at the end of another Kohli-AB attack. This time
he broke his own world record by adding 219 runs in 96 balls.
Hyderabad
lost their first two matches but made a place in the playoffs. But once, he
beat Kolkata by 22 runs, Gujarat 4 wickets, and in the final, Bangalore by 8
runs.
It
was arguably the best shot in Bangalore on this title. Kohli broke all the IPL
records with 973 runs, while De Villiers finished third. Yuveswendra Chahal
with the ball second and Watson remained third.
But
Hyderabad won, in which Warner and Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar, Nehra,
Mustafizur Rehman, Moises Henriques and Barinda Saran got the start of the pace
bowling. "Fiz" was also the first - and till date, the only player to
win the Emerging Cricketer of the season.
2017: Multiple Ceremonies and Maharashtra Derby
Pune
(who had dropped "S" from the end of SuperJint's) and Mumbai, the two
most strong bowling units, finished on top of the group. They faced four times,
of which Pune had won the first three, including the Qualifier. Then came the
final, in Wankhede - the toughest in the history of the tournament.
Krupal
Pandya picked up Mumbai for 79/7 to 129/8 but in 71/1 in the 12th over, it lost
Pune's match. But Mumbai scored runs in some tight overs and Pune were left to
pursue the 11 runs in the last over, which Johnson bowled.
Manoj
Tiwary put the first ball for four runs, but Johnson took two wickets in the
next two. Things went down by 4 in the last ball, and Washington finished the
run trying out the beautiful third run, which resulted in a match tie.
2018: New broadcasters and old champions
Gujarat
and Pune, who had done so well in their two seasons, were disbanded after
returning to Chennai and Rajasthan. Both teams celebrated their return by
making a place in the playoffs.
Chennai
Super Kings lifted the trophy
In
the absence of Captain Steven Smith, it was not easy for Rajasthan, in which
the IPL was jolted for the season after tampering the Cape Town ball with
Warner. With three wins in their first nine matches, the men of Ajinkya Rahane
were looking in apathy before winning four out of five to make a leap in the top
five.
Chennai
was at the end of some ridicule on social media. In their squad, eleven
cricketers - most of whom were the main members - were tricinier, four of them
were above 35, who gave them the tag of "Dads Army".
But
Chennai performed brilliantly. They were only matched with Hyderabad, which
separated from the net run rate of 0.031 only. Then chasing 140 in the
qualifiers 1, Chennai lost to 62/6, then 92/7, then 113/8, before they left the
home in the last over. Faf du Plessis scored an unbeaten 67.
Thus,
on meeting in the final, there was very little to choose among the teams. In
Warner's absence, Sunrisers led by Kane Williamson scored 178/6. But then he
ran to Watson, who played 117 not out in 57 balls.
And
Chennai matched the record of three IPL titles in Mumbai.
