28 March 1955: England Restrict New Zealand to Lowest Ever Total

It is difficult to imagine that any cricket team can be dismissed for just 26 runs in the Test innings. But, it really happened!

In 1955, on this day, a Geoff Rabbon-led New Zealand surrendered against Leonard Hutton's England team. The Test match was also the last Test of Hutton's career.

The opportunity was between New Zealand and England in the Second Test match at Eden Park in Auckland.

New Zealand, who had opted to bat in the first innings, scored 200 runs and then combined England for 246 runs and gave visitors 46 runs.

The Kiwi team started their second innings with 46 runs.

England's Bob Appillard (4/7) and Brian Statham (3/9) wreaked havoc on the batting line-up of New Zealand and crushed Kiwi team by 26 runs and won the match with an innings and 20 runs.

The score of 26 is still the lowest by a team in Test history.
